Obituary of Jim Baylie

James Charles Baylie long time resident of Vona Colorado passed from this earth on Friday December 19, 2008 at Select Specialty Hospital in Denver Colorado, after a long hard fought battle with cancer.
Jim was born June 20, 1949 in Denver Colorado to Samuel Francis Baylie and Laura Jane (Leonard) Baylie.
Jim Graduated from Sheridan High School in 1967. He then entered into the United Stated Navy and served his country during the Vietnam War aboard the U.S.S. Decatur where he was an Artillery Fireman. He was Honorably discharged on September 24, 1971.
He moved to Stratton in 1975 where he worked with Ron Lueck in his concrete business until he took a job with Kit Carson County Road and Bridge in 1989 and worked out of the Flagler District.
In 1977 Jim married Terry Romine. To this union was born Jarod Glen.
On October 26, 1988 Jim married Julia (Burian) Smith in Burlington Colorado. They lovingly brought into this world their daughter Sadie Nadine and son Zebulin Thomas James.
Jim was very active in his community involvement. He served as an EMT, volunteer fireman and Vona Town Council member. He was a lifetime member of the VFW post 9644 in Fort Logan Colorado and at one time served as Commander of the Stratton American Legion.
Jim found joy in spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing and his camping trips to rock creek with Dave Lambert. He took great pride in working in his back yard, building an amazing secluded sanctuary for his family, which included two koi ponds, many pathways, plants, bushes, and a rock stream.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Sam and Don, two brother-in-laws Carl Matschke and Jack Burian.
Those left to cherish Jimâs memory is his loving wife of twenty years, Julia, son, Jarod Baylie in Parker Colorado, daughter Sadie Baylie attending Johnson and Wales University in Denver, Colorado, and son, Zeb Baylie of Vona. Also surviving are his two sisters, Colleen Hendrickson and her husband Don of Fort Morgan Colorado, Sandy Church of Englewood, Colorado. He is also survived by father and mother-in-law Tom and Nadine Burian of Vona. Two brother-in-laws Joe Burian and his wife Sharon of Highlands Ranch, CO, Jeff Burian, Vona, CO. Three sister-in-laws Barbara Duvall and husband Gene of Seibert, CO, Kristy Richie and her husband VanDale of Seibert, CO, Nikki Marzolf and husband Mike of Seibert, CO, and a host of nieces and nephews, and many special friends.
Funeral services for Jim will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 10:30 am at the Hi-Plains Elementary School in Vona with Pastors Danâl Hollis and Bob Strauch officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Vona Cemetery in Vona, Colorado.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 22, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Love Funeral Home in Burlington.
Memorials may be made in Jimâs name toward his childrenâs education fund, or the Hi Plains Booster Club of Seibert and may be left at or sent to the Colorado Bank in Stratton, CO.
