Hazel Irene (Morris) Green, 82, died Sunday, December 21, 2008, at Carlaâs Cluster Care in Limon, Co.
Hazel was the third child of Nora and George Morris born on April 11, 1926 in Ramah, Colorado. She spent the early years of her life on her familyâs ranch south of Ramah with her two older brothers and two younger sisters. She graduated from Alta Vista high school and went on to attend the Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, Colorado.
She married the love of her life, Wayne âBuzzâ? Green on June 1st, 1947. Children born to this union were Sue Lynn, Cindy Kay, Rodger Herbert, and Michael George.
Hazel and Buzz ranched south of Simla. She was a homemaker and stayed home raising their family. They later sold the ranch and bought the Simla Food Center, which later became G&R Super. She and Buzz worked side by side in the store for 25 years.
Hazel was a very talented artist, seamstress, and cook. She loved to travel and see the world. She thoroughly enjoyed people. Hazel was an active member of the Simla Baptist Church, and was involved in the reading book club, various bible studies, the Thunderbird club, a member of the Alta Vista Extension Club, and rarely missed a shopping day trip on the senior bus. She served on the Friends of the Library Advisory Board for the Simla Public Library and was past president of the Elbert County Council on Aging. She was a sports enthusiast, and enjoyed watching her grandkids play as well as rarely missed a Nuggets or Rockies game on television.
Hazel is preceded in death by her husband Wayne âBuzzâ? Green, parents George and Nora Morris, and brother Kenneth Morris.
Hazelâs children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She is survived by her children Sue and Larry Reeves, Cindy and Rick Gordon, Rodger and Laura Green, and Mike and Sharon Green; her grandchildren Amanda (Reeves) and Mike Howard, Carissa (Gordon) and Doug Cox, Kelly (Gordon) and Kyle Kocerha, and Kimberly (Gordon) and Tye Amendt, Rachel, Jillian, and Nathaniel Green, and Jessica (Green) and TJ Amendt, Mick, Marcus, and Matthew Green; her great grandchildren Drew, Ryland, Mason, and Ashlynn Howard, Caston and Carlee Cox, Treven and Tatum Kocerha, and Gracie Arnendt. She is also survived by her brother Vernon (Dorothy) Morris, and sisters Georgia (Byrel) Woolsey, and Kathryn (Lee) Bast, a sister-in-law Goldie Morris.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.rn., Wednesday, December 24th at the First Baptist Church in Simla, with Pastor Jerry Allen officiating. Musical selections, âHow Great Thou Art,â?âAmazing Grace,â? and âIn the Garden,â? were sung by Rick Cofer. Paul bearers were Mick Green, Marcus Green, Matthew Green, Nathaniel Green, Mike Howard, Doug Cox, Kyle Kocerha, Tye Amendt, and TJ Amendt. Honorary escorts were Amanda Howard, Carissa Cox, Kelly Kocerha, Kimberly Amendt, Jessica Amendt, Rachel Green, and Jillian Green. Burial followed in the Simla Cemetery.
