Obituary of Harvey Lambert
Longtime resident Harvey Eugene Lambert was born to Jessie Floyd and Grace (Laurie) Lambert in Norwich, Kansas on January 22, 1916. He was baptized at the Tyrone Baptist Church in Oklahoma. He attended Adams High School in Oklahoma. After graduation, he attended PanHandle A&M at Goodwell, Oklahoma on a basketball scholarship.
Harvey passed away on December 26, 2008 at the Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital in Burlington.
On May 2, 1936 he married Velma Lola Houseman and two sons were born to them, Doyle and Loren.
All his life he was a farmer. In his younger married years when the dirty thirties hit in Oklahoma, he moved to Washington State where he worked for orchard growers and cut timber. Later moving back to Oklahoma to farm, milk cows and played âCâ? melody saxophone in a dance band trying to keep in the farming game.
In 1948, he moved his family to Burlington, Colorado where he continued to farm and feed cattle. Harvey was one of the first farmers to grow sugar beets in Kit Carson County.
Harvey and Velma were very active in the Prairie Carriage Club. They attended the First Baptist Church in Burlington. Harvey also served on the Fairview Cemetery Board for 9 years.
On May 10, 2000, he lost the love of his life, Velma, but continued on. Harvey moved to the Legacy in September 2005, and then moved to Grace Manor in December 2008.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and three brothers, Martin, Bruce and Clyde.
He leaves behind his brother Vern Lambert and his wife Evelyn of Hooker, Oklahoma; two sons, Doyle and his wife Marion, Loren and his wife Beulah of Burlington. Grandchildren Dayla Hertneky of Burlington, Wendel and his wife Wanda of Ulysses, Kansas and Kyle Lambert of Burlington. Great-grandchildren Andrew Hertneky of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mary Hamilton and her husband John of Hays, Kansas, Zachary Lambert of Burlington, Julia and Jordan Lambert of Ulysses, Kansas, step great grandchildren Michael Hertneky and his wife Crystal of Burlington, Travis Unruh and his wife Alicia of Wichita, Kansas, Larissa Johnson and her husband Dyllan of McPherson, Kansas; step great-great grandchildren, Courtney and Brittney Hertneky of Burlington, Caleb and Carson Unruh of Wichita, Kansas, Samantha and Taylor Johnson of McPherson, Kansas as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on December 30, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the First Baptist Church in Burlington with Pastor Gary Bazer officiating. Music Selections âPrecious Memoriesâ?, âHis Eye Is on the Sparrowâ? and âGood Night and Good Morningâ? were sung by Jim Sharp and accompanied by Cheryl Naughton and Judi Rainbolt.
The Obituary was read by Don Stewart.
Pallbearers were Doyle, Loren, Wendel, Zach Lambert, Andrew Hertneky and Mary Hamilton. Honorary Pallbearers were Charles Walstrom, Don Stewart, Louis Nider, Norbert Pekarek, Doren Whitmore, Gary Andrews, Tom Schlosser, Lewis Carlin, Louis Stout and Art Schmidt.
Burial was held at the Fairview Cemetery in Burlington.
Memorials may be made in Harveyâs name and may be left at the First National Bank of Burlington.
