John Dean Davis, formerly of rural Washington County, passed away on January 13, 2009 at his home in Castle Rock surrounded by his family.
Dean and his twin sister Jean were born on August 24, 1935 in Lakin, KS to John Wesley and Blanche Davis. At the age of 10 his family moved to a farm North of Arriba, CO. where he spent the remainder of his childhood. He graduated from Arriba High School in 1953, and was drafted into the Navy in 1955. After two years of service he returned to Colorado and purchased a farm 25 miles North of Arriba.
Dean married the love of his life LoJuana G. Cross on August 6, 1961 in her parentâs yard. They built their life on their farm, raising wheat and cattle. In 1969 Dean, his brother-in-law Jack, and his father-in- law Don formed a corporation known as C-D Farms. They raised two children, Chris Dean and Dena Kristy. In 1975 they built a beautiful new home where they enjoyed entertaining friends and family. Dean took great pride in their home, and even greater pride showing everyone LoJuanaâs beautiful yard.
Dean belonged to the Colorado Cattlemenâs Association and served as President in 1985-86. He was also on the Woodlin School Board for 15 years, serving as President from 1979-1992. He was the Director of the First National Bank of Hugo for many years. He also belonged to the Woodlin Lions Club, and served as President twice and Zone Chairman from 1976-77. In 2002 he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Bank. In addition, he served the Church of the Brethren in Arriba, the State Board of Stock Inspection, the Colorado Endowment Trust Fund committee, and numerous other organizations.
Even with his busy schedule, Dean always made his family his biggest priority, and took a great deal of pride in their accomplishments. Dean loved his cattle, and had a soft spot for all animals. He always had an optimistic outlook on life, and loved to make others laugh with his amazing sense of humor.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley and Blanche Davis. He is survived by his wife, LoJuana of Castle Rock, CO, son Chris and wife Jill Davis and their children Ryan and Cole of Arriba, CO, and daughter Dena and husband Zane Noe and their children Ashley and Wesley of Eaton, CO.
