Obituary of Kelly Bode

View Video Tribute Kelly Lynn Bode, age 17, went to be with her Lord on March 12, 2009, at the Aurora South Medical Center in Aurora, CO. after battling a short illness. Kelly was born in Hugo, CO. to Dale and Carol (Williams) Bode on March 23, 1991. Kelly’s life revolved around whatever sport was in season. She started with t-ball and coach pitch. She couldn’t wait until she was old enough to play pee wee basketball. She loved school except that it started too early in the morning! She liked all her classes, but swimming, singing and recess were her favorites. One summer she played softball and was on the swim team. We decided that two sports in the summer were too much. She played softball one more season and then went back to swimming. Her favorite stroke was the breaststroke. Kelly also joined the Willing Workers 4-H Club. She learned to sew and quilt with the help of a very patient leader! She also had projects in cooking, cake decorating, and shooting sports. Her favorite project was ceramics. The summer before fifth grade Kelly went to Wyoming Bible Camp (WBC) with Tim & Leah Swenson. She had a great time and couldn’t wait for camp the next year. Various friends went with her each year but it came to be her special time to spend with Kelsey each summer. When Kelly entered fifth grade she decided she was too old to go to a babysitter after school. She spent a lot of time “helpingâ€? with volleyball practice by shagging balls. She also helped some of the elementary teachers after school. It usually took a search of the building to find her when it was time to go home. In junior high she still thought school started too early. She still liked school, especially the social aspect. She loved being with her friends. Kelly was the manager for the high school volleyball and basketball teams, a responsibility she took verly seriously. She played volleyball, basketball and was on the track team. She was elected treasurer for her class. In the summer she helped with swimming lessons by getting in the pool with kids who were not quite tall enough to stand on the bottom of the pool. Kelly started working at the C-Store the summer before high school. She continued to help teach swim lessons and lifeguard, but her favorite summer job was at the elevator during harvest. Harvest never lasted as long as she wanted it to. She spent her earnings on a cell phone and thus began the nightly texting to the current boyfriend until one of them fell asleep. Summer activities included basketball and volleyball camps and swim meets. She also squeezed in some time to do ceramics for 4-H. The highlight of Kelly’s summer was attending Wyoming Bible Camp at Lander, Wyoming, where she met many treasured friends. After returning from WBC in 2005, Kelly made the decision to be baptized. Kelly was baptized on August 21, 2005. Kelly joined FFA and was a junior officer her freshman year and was elected the chapter treasurer her sophomore year. She was a member of FBLA for three years, serving as the vice president her senior year. Kelly was also joined EPYCS for three years and was the treasurer her junior year. She was honored to be selected as a member of National Honor Society her junior year and served as the student council representative of this group. She was the treasurer of the Class of 2009 and of F-Club. Through FBLA, Kelly helped to organize a community service project, raising over $4600 to donate to the Women’s Wellness Connection. Kelly planned to attend the University of Northern Colorado majoring in Early Childhood Education. She wanted to teach pre-school or one of the primary grades. Kelly is survived by her mother, Carol Bode of Flagler; father Dale Bode and Brenda Moreen of Arriba; and brother, Christopher Bode of Flagler. She is also survived by her grandparents Fred and Lynn Williams of Hartman, CO and Carl and Carol Bode of Tulsa, OK.; aunts and uncles Diane and Tom Graham of Swink, CO; Alan and Liz Williams of Pueblo, CO.; Marleen and Steve Dettwiler of Andover, KS; cousins Danielle and Stephanie Graham of Swink, CO.; Cassi and Michael Williams of Pueblo, CO.; Hannah and Chad Fitzwater and Andrew Dettwiler of Andover, KS., along with many friends.
