Obituary of Mary Beek
Longtime Arapahoe, Colorado resident Mary Evelyn Beek, died Thursday March 12, 2009 at the Cheyenne Manor in Cheyenne Wells, CO. She was 91 years old.
Mary Evelyn was born on November 6, 1917 in Cheyenne Wells to Emmitt and Zora (Curtis) Tinsley. She graduated from Cheyenne Wells High School in 1935. On October 11, 1939, in Colby, Kansas, she was married to Lorenz Emil âLarryâ? Beek. They began their life together in Arapahoe, Colorado. To this union four boys were born, Barry, Buddy Michael, Robert âBobâ?, and Brady. She and Larry also raised two girls, Jan and Linda Mays.
Mary Evelyn and Larry enjoyed being around their family and she loved sewing and cooking. She supported her husband in farming, cattle ranching and softball events. She enjoyed her companion and dog Mr. Jiggs. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Alter Society and was a former Cub Scout Den Mother.
Preceding Mary Evelyn in death were her parents, her husband Larry, and son Buddy. She is also preceded by one brother James Tinsley.
Surviving family members are her sons Barry and wife Molly of Cheyenne Wells, CO, Bob of Arapahoe, and Brady and wife Lisa of Olathe, KS. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 4 great great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and many special friends.
A funeral mass will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday March 17, 2009, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cheyenne Wells. Father Kuzma, presiding. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Cheyenne Wells.
Visitation will be on Monday March 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a Parish Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM.
A memorial fund has been established in Mary Evelynâs name to either the Cheyenne Manor or the Sacred Heart Alter Society, and may be left at or sent to the Eastern Colorado Bank in Cheyenne Wells.
All funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Love Funeral Home, Cheyenne Wells, Colorado.
