Obituary of William Layton
William A. Layton, age 51, of Limon, Colorado passed away May 1, 2009 at his home in Limon.
Willie was born April 1, 1958 in Sterling, Colorado to Billy Ray and Joyce Elaine (Flattery) Layton. He was one of three children born to this union. Willie spent his childhood in California, before moving to Limon in 1972. He graduated from Limon High School in 1976.
Willie married his high school sweetheart, Jan Lohmeier, on November 18, 1977. The couple made their home in Limon. Willie was employed by the Town of Limon from 1979 to present. He served as the Water and Waste Water Superintendent. Jan and Willie also owned and operated Lincoln Lanes from 1991 to 2000.
Willie enjoyed fly fishing, playing golf, bowling and traveling with family and friends. He holds the Lincoln Lanes High Series Record, having bowled two perfect games. Willie also served as Bowling Association Secretary for over twenty years.
Willie's passion was baseball and softball. He enjoyed organizing and playing Men's Softball. He coached all ages of baseball, from Little League through high school, for over 25 years. Willie was instrumental in building the Limon Softball Fields.
Willie was proud to be a Limon Badger and will be inducted into the Lloyd Gaskill Athletic Hall of Fame on May 18, 2009.
Willie was preceded in death by his grandparents, and his mother.
Willie is survived by his wife Jan of Limon, children Eric and wife Carrie and their daughter Aubrey Layton of Limon, and Dalton Darling of Limon, father Bill and wife Marilyn Layton of Provo, UT; siblings Les and wife Jona Layton of Limon, Shonda and husband Dan Monks of Colorado Springs, CO; father and mother-in-law Jack and Betty Lohmeier of Limon, brother and sister-in-laws Dave (Marge) Lohmeier of Limon, Dennis (Cary) Lohmeier of Longmont, CO. Julie (Mike) Oglesby of Windsor, CO, Susan (Mike) Meyer of Limon, and Nancy Mauldin of Redlands, CA. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A Funeral Service for William "Willie" Layton was held Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Limon High School, Limon, CO.
Visitation was held Tuesday May 5, 2009 3:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at the Love Funeral Home Limon, Colorado.
