Obituary of James Bartlett, Jr
Longtime Burlington, Colorado resident, James âJimâ? Kay Bartlett, Jr. age 79, died Monday, September 14, 2009 at home in Burlington, Colorado.
Jim was born November 30, 1929 in St. Francis, Kansas to James Kay Bartlett, Sr. and Ruth Marie (Van Brocklin) Bartlett. He attended schools in St. Francis, KS; Denver, CO and Goodland, KS before graduating from Kanorado, KS. After graduation, he was united in marriage to Ellen Marie Jensen on March 8, 1950 at his parentâs family farm in Ruleton, KS. To this union they were blessed with six children: Gwenn, Joyce, Lynn, Chris, Pamela and Kaye.
He worked through the years as a service station manager, government surveyor, and plumbing and heating in Kansas, Texas, Utah, Idaho and Colorado. After a request from his parents to return to help with the family farm, that is where Jim spent many years farming with his parents and on his own farm near Kanorado, KS, while also working part time doing plumbing for Doren Knapp of Burlington. During his farming years he had also done custom harvesting in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado and Montana.
He was baptized in 1980, and became a member of the Burlington Christian Church. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and fixing various broken vehicles and other items.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents James K. Bartlett, Sr., Ruth Bartlett Asher, sisters Janice Lea Wegner and Donna King; half brother Jack Bartlett and his wife Jerry Bartlett; mother-in-law Lena Schaffer and father-in-law J.C. Jensen; brother-in-law Bob Jensen; daughter Kaye Ellen Williams and son Chris Bartlett.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Marie Bartlett of Burlington, CO; his children Gwenn Kleweno of Burlington, CO; Joyce and husband Dennis Weaver of Holyoke, CO; Lynn Bartlett of Glenwood Springs, CO; and Pam and husband Don Luther of Greeley, CO. Grandkids are Jessica and husband Michael Wolf of Kanorado, KS; Ginger Kleweno of Norfolk, VA; LauraLee and husband Jeff Richards; RJ and wife Abby Kleweno of Logan, UT; Tracy and husband Jerry Steggs of Holyoke, CO; Mindy and husband Brad Richards; T.J. Weaver of Tribune, KS; Kalob and Rebecca Weaver of Holyoke, CO; Heather and husband Steve Travnicek of Peyton, CO; Josh Finley of Greeley, CO; and Jerimy and wife Sarrah Williams of Brunswick, ME. Great-grandkids include Ethan, Emily, and Ella Wolf; Bryce Richards; J.C., Parker and Reese Steggs; and Tyson and Trey Richards; Mikayla, Logan and Alexiakaye Williams.
Jim will be greatly missed by his family and many special friends.
Funeral services for Jim were held on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the Burlington Christian Church, with Pastor David Williams officiating. Burial followed in the Fairview Cemetery in Burlington. Visitation was held on Friday, September 18, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Love Funeral Home in Burlington.
Memorials may be made in Jimâs name to the Burlington Christian Church Building Fund and may be left at or sent to the Equitable Savings and Loan in Burlington.
